Veterans from across Mayo will be meeting with the Minister for Veterans’ Affairs, Darren Chester, next Tuesday as part of a visit organised by the Federal Member for Mayo Rebekha Sharkie.
The Minister will be attending a round table discussion on veteran services with local RSL sub-branch presidents and community leaders at Strathalbyn on January 29 before heading to Macclesfield for a morning tea with invited guests.
The morning tea will feature representatives from various veteran support organisations including the Department of Veterans’ Affairs, Legacy and SoldierOn.
“We have a vibrant veteran community in Mayo with many current and former servicemen and women living in our region who are supported by active RSL sub-branches and many groups and organisations,” Rebekha said.
“I am so pleased that Minister Chester was able to find time in his schedule to accept my invitation to visit our region and hear first-hand about the issues affecting our veterans and the many projects our community are involved in.”
Minister Chester is the Member for Gippsland in Victoria.
He was sworn in as the Minister for Veterans' Affairs, Minister for Defence Personnel and Minister Assisting the Prime Minister for the Centenary of ANZAC on 5 March 2018.
The Minister is responsible for the operations of the Department of Veterans' Affairs.
