About Rebekha

Rebekha Sharkie MP represents the regional electorate of Mayo in South Australia, including the Adelaide Hills, the Fleurieu Peninsula and Kangaroo Island.

Rebekha works hard to be an independent voice for the people of Mayo, putting her community first and addressing each piece of legislation on its merit.

Issues championed by Rebekha include cost of living measures, better health outcomes for regional Australians, local infrastructure funding and regional housing.

As well Rebekha has advocated in Parliament for aged care reform, climate action, political donation reform, gambling reform and integrity and accountability in politics.

First elected in 2016, Rebekha is the first woman to represent Mayo and is now the longest serving female House of Representatives crossbench member since Federation.

During her time in Parliament, Rebekha has served on several Parliamentary Committees including the Standing Committee on Education, Employment & Training, Joint Standing Committee on Electoral Matters, the Standing Committee on Infrastructure, Transport and Cities, and the Minister for Indigenous Australians’ Parliamentarians Working Group.

Rebekha is a member of the Select Committee on Workforce Australia Employment Services, the House of Representatives Committee on Agriculture, the Parliamentary Education Office Advisory Committee and the Selection Committee.

In July 2022, Rebekha was appointed to the Speaker’s Panel and is the first female crossbench member to be bestowed this honour.

Rebekha lives in the Adelaide Hills with her husband Nathan and Great Dane Lulu and is a mother to three adult children.
