I’m Rebekha Sharkie, your independent voice for Mayo.

I’ve lived here for decades – it’s where I raised my children and where my husband runs a small construction business. When I speak in Canberra, I speak as your neighbour.

I work every day to make sure Mayo’s voice is heard on the issues that matter most to our community.

The future of the Woodside Barracks

The Woodside Barracks in the Adelaide Hills is important to our community – economically, environmentally and historically. Next year would have marked its 100th anniversary.

We now know the Government is selling off the Barracks, as part of the Defence divestment of real estate across the country.

So, where to from here? I expect the sale of the Barracks could take some years. In the meantime, I’m working hard to ensure the facilities being used by community groups will remain available.

I continue to meet with stakeholders about the future of this site and will keep up my advocacy for its future as a community asset. I do not want to see Woodside Barracks used for housing, and according to our residents’ survey, neither do locals.

I remain hopeful of an outcome which will see the site and its facilities enjoyed by the community.

At twilight on the SImage attachmentImage attachment+1Image attachment

At twilight on the Sunday before ANZAC Day our communities of Macclesfield RSL Sub-Branch and Mt Torrens held services to honour those who serve and have served our nation. Thank you to the Hills Murraylands Military Motorcycle Club for inviting me to your inaugural service at Mt Torrens. Thank you also to my wonderful team members Trish and Mike for representing me at Macclesfield.

Friendship, service Image attachment

Friendship, service and lifelong learning are at the heart of the South Australian Country Women's Assoc. (SACWA). It was a pleasure to join the Woodside Branch as they marked an incredible 80 years of serving our community. Congratulations to all involved in this remarkable milestone!

From Verdun to Canbe

From Verdun to Canberra! It was fantastic to welcome Year 10 students from Hills Christian Community School to Parliament House recently, as they explored our parliamentary system and learned more about civic leadership. It’s always inspiring to see young people engaging with how our democracy works. ... See MoreSee Less
