AGRICULTURE AND RURAL AFFAIRS

2020 Spirit of Excellence in Agriculture Awards

Applications close 30 September 2020

The Sustainable Agriculture Scholarship for Farmers sponsored by the Department for Environment and Water (DEW) is an $8000 grant for a farmer (aged 18-40) to pursue further study, take a study tour or run a special project. DEW is committed to supporting communities and industry to make decisions and take action to ensure the sustainable use of our natural resources.

The Rural Youth Bursary sponsored by Primary Industries and Regions SA (PIRSA) is a $5000 grant for rural young people (aged 18-30) working in a rural community, not necessarily in agriculture, to undertake further study in their chosen career with an ultimate benefit to their community. PIRSA is committed to growing primary industries and driving regional development.

Supporting Agricultural Shows and Field Days Program

Applications close 9 October 2020

The program provides $39.025 million to support agricultural show societies and field day organisers that have cancelled their 2020 event due to COVID-19. The program is funded through the $1 billion COVID-19 Relief and Recovery Fund.

The maximum total grant amount available to you across the life of the program is dependent upon the average total attendance on all days at your local agricultural show or field day, based upon the shows and field days you conducted over the previous three years:

Small shows up to 1,999 attendees - $10,000
Medium shows 2,000 to 4,999 attendees - $15,000
Large shows 5,000 attendees and up - $70,000

SA Dairy Industry Fund

This program is open on an ongoing basis.

This program aims to finance projects that directly benefit the South Australian dairy industry and its communities. It seeks to support game-changing concepts that offer real value for money and genuine potential to improve the productivity, performance, business growth and diversity of the SA dairy industry, and any part of its supply chain.

SADA is particularly keen to receive applications that focus on supporting and encouraging local investment and value-adding, both in terms of new products and opening up new markets here in Australia and overseas. Funding of up to $150,000 is available.

FRRR – Tackling Tougher Times Program

The Tackling Tough Times Together grant program helps communities access the resources they need to support one another through the ongoing effects of the drought.

Grants are available for a broad range of grassroots, community-led initiatives that directly and clearly benefit local communities. Applications are accepted on an ongoing basis and assessed quarterly.

Three tiers of grants are available:

Up to $20,000 – projects to be finalised within 18 months of approval;
Up to $60,000 – projects to be finalised within 18 months of approval;
Up to $150,000 – applications for this tier are by Expression of Interest, and projects to be finalised within 18 months of approval. Applicants must speak with the TTTT team to discuss their project before applying.

FRRR – Strengthening Rural Communities

Rolling applications. Applications for round 7 close 24 November 2020

The Strengthening Rural Communities (SRC) program aims to give the thousands of small rural, regional and remote communities across Australia an opportunity to access funding to support broad community needs. Given the events of summer 2019/20, it has also been expanded to offer funding to support recovery in bushfire-affected communities.

1. Small & Vital - up to $10,000 grants available. Communities in non-metropolitan areas with fewer than 15,000 people are prioritised.

2. Bushfire Recovery – up to $25,000 grants available. Projects that enhance the recovery of communities affected by the Sept 2019 to Feb 2020 bushfires are eligible.

Wine Australia – Visiting Scholars Bursaries

This program aims to support organisations that seek funding to bring international experts to Australia to participate in workshops, meetings, conferences and symposia and in research projects.

A cash and/or in-kind co-contribution to the proposal by the applicant and other parties is expected. If the application seeks to bring a speaker to Australia for a workshop or conference, the commercial nature of the event will be taken into account when determining the level of support to be offered.

ARTS AND COMMUNICATIONS

Restart Investment to Sustain and Expand (RISE) Fund

Applications close 31 May 2021, subject to allocation of funds

To support the arts and entertainment sector to reactivate, this program targets funding towards sector organisations who are seeking to restart, re-imagine or create new activities. The program is intended to assist by providing finance to assist presentation of new or re-shaped cultural and
creative activities and events. This will support employment of artists and workers in the arts and entertainment sector, as well as in connected industries such as hospitality, accommodation, transport and freight. This will all contribute to rebuilding Australia’s economy, as well as enhancing community wellbeing and access to cultural experiences across Australia, including in outer metropolitan, regional and remote areas.

COVID-19 Arts Sustainability Fund

Applications close 31 May 2021, subject to allocation of funds

To support the arts and entertainment sector to continue its activities, this program targets funding towards significant Australian Government-funded arts organisations seeking funding to remain solvent. The program is intended to assist by providing the necessary finance to plan a pathway for
recovery from the effects of COVID-19. This will support employment of workers (including in interdependent industries such as hospitality, retail, accommodation, transport and freight) and contribute to rebuilding Australia’s economy, as well as enhancing community wellbeing and access to cultural experiences across Australia.

Regional Arts Fund, Country Arts Australia

Quick Response Grant — Regional Arts Fund: < $2000 individuals < $4000 organisations
Opens July 1 - until funds expended (closes 14 Dec-11 Jan for Christmas)
Quick Response grants are to assist applicants who are unable to apply for support from other funding sources because the opportunity occurs outside of a normal grant round. Please discuss with your regional Arts and Cultural Facilitator.
RAF Boost Program - RAF Relief: up to $5000
Open July 1 until funds expended
This new grant is part of the Regional Arts Fund Boost Program and is for immediate needs such as assets, support for arts practices, small projects and PD opportunities.
RAF Boost Program - RAF Recovery: up to $40,000 over 2 years
Open July 1 - Closes 12 October 2020
This new grant is part of the Regional Arts Fund Boost Program and is for projects that focus on activities that assist in recovery from the impacts of COVID-19.
Shows on the Road (GAL) - Country Arts SA
Open now until Dec 17, 2020.
This program aims to increase access to the arts through the delivery of professional performing arts to smaller country centres.

Visions of Australia

Applications close 2 October 2020

This program aims to support development and touring of exhibitions of cultural material of historic, scientific, design, social or artistic significance. The Visions of Australia program is part of the Australian Government’s Arts and Cultural Development Program which supports participation in, and access to, Australia’s art and culture through developing and supporting cultural expression.

There is no limit to the amount of funding that may be sought, however all applications for funding must be reasonable, include realistic budgets and represent value with relevant money. Financial partnerships and co-contributions are strongly encouraged and are a consideration under the assessment criteria.

Funding is available through annual or multi-year grant agreements subject to available funds. Multi-year grant agreements are available for a maximum of four years. Please refer to the Guidelines for more information on multi-year funding.

A total funding pool of $2.5 million is available each financial year.

PPCA Performers' Trust Foundation Grants

This program aims to promote and encourage music and the music-related performing arts.

Applications must be for one or more of the following purposes:

Performances at concerts at or for charitable institutions such as hospitals or homes for the aged.
Scholarships for the promotion and encouragement of musical and theatrical education.
The promotion and encouragement of the performing arts to the general public.
The aid or assistance of any beneficiary who is unable to adequately maintain herself/himself by her/his own exertions and other income.

There is no specified limit. However, funds are finite and there is no guarantee that applicants will receive all or any of the funds requested. Grants are non-recurrent. It is unusual for grants to be approved in excess of $3,000 for an individual or $5,000 for a group or organisation.

Robert Stigwood Fellowship Program

Applications close 8 October 2020

This program aims to provide local musicians and industry entrepreneurs with intensive mentoring and personalised professional development from project deliverers Stu MacQueen and Dan Crannitch of Wonderlick Entertainment.

The program has two streams:

1. Industry Fellowships

Mentoring for emerging South Australian music industry entrepreneurs who are working in music management or other areas of artist representation.
Areas of focus include identifying strengths, weaknesses and ambitions for the future.
Each fellow will receive one-on-one help developing their business for the following 12 months.
Grants of up to $5,000 are available.

2. Artist Fellowships

Tailored to the needs of the participating artists and includes things like songwriting, production, business skills, marketing and public relations, and attendance at conferences and high-level industry meetings.
The arrangement is akin to a surrogate record label/management team.
Grants of up to $25,000 are available.

Community Broadcasting Foundation – Quick Response Grants

This program is open on an ongoing basis

This program aims to support community media organisations experiencing emergencies that risk discontinued transmission or operations, or who have been provided with a time-limited opportunity.

The program offers the following funding:

Emergencies: 100% of the financial cost of the project.
Opportunities: Maximum of 50% towards the total financial cost of the project.

Adelaide White Ribbon Breakfast Committee – Small Grants

This program seeks to support projects aimed at the prevention of violence against women.

Grants of up to $5,000 are available.

Eligible projects should have an advocacy, educational, prevention or victim/survivor support.

The program is keen to support new initiatives by individuals and community groups who have not previously received funding. However, re‐submitted, previously unsuccessful applications will be accepted.

BankSA Foundation Community Grants

Applications close 9 October 2020

This program seeks to invest in projects that will improve the lives of physically, socially or economically disadvantaged people in South Australian and the Northern Territory. Funding of up to $50,000 is available.

Eligible applicants include organisations that must:

Be located in South Australia or Northern Territory.
Have an annual gross revenue of less than $5 million.
Receive less than 60% of their income from recurrent State or Federal funding.
Be endorsed as a deductible gift recipient (but not another ancillary fund). Deductible Gift Recipients must be listed with the Australian Taxation Office under Item 1 of the Table in Section 30-15 of the Income Tax Assessment Act, 1936.

Projects in SA and NT
Early intervention services
Youth workers
Recreational and respite programs
Counselling and therapy
Educational equipment and assistance

Surf Life Saving Australia – Inclusive Beaches Equipment Grants

This program aims to provide support to clubs offering disability inclusion programs.

Six grants of up to $2,000 are available.

Grants will be paid retrospectively for the purchase of approved equipment. Clubs must advise SLSA prior to the purchase of equipment to ensure that it is approved to be covered by the grant.

DISABILITY SUPPORT

The Reeve Foundation Quality of Life Program

Applications close 22 October 2020

This program aims to empower individuals with disabilities and their families by providing grants to non-profit organisations that improve quality of life through inclusion, access, independence, opportunities for community engagement, and other life-enhancing endeavors.

There are two types of grants offered:

1. Direct Effect (Tier 1)

Open-focused and will award 26 grants of up to $25,000 to support the wide range of projects and activities of the traditional Quality of Life grants. Grants will fund specific budget items that will clearly impact individuals living with paralysis and their families.

2. High Impact: Offers three increasing levels of grant funding (Tiers 2, 3 and 4). Each tier is targeted to focus on a high priority issue for the community of individuals living with paralysis and their families, as follows:

Tier 2: Ten grants of $30,000 are available for the following priority areas:
- Transportation
- Respite/caregiving
- Disaster preparedness

Tier 3: Four grants of $40,000 are available for nursing home transition.
Tier 4: Five grants of $50,000 are available for employment.

Deafness Foundation Grants Program

This program aims to projects that support the deaf and hard of hearing and which address one of the Deafness Foundation’s strategic priorities:

Expand Foundation’s role in minimizing the incidence of hearing loss.
Enhance awareness of issues for people who are deaf or hard of hearing.
Strengthen and build partnerships and collaborative relationships.
Support people with hearing loss.
Serve Australia wide in all aspects of operations.
Increase and diversify fundraising streams.

There are no set minimum and maximum funding limits.

Eligible applicants include organisations across Australia that must have an ABN and have a proven ability to manage funds.

Australian Bird Environment Foundation (ABEF) Community Grants

This program aims to support practical community-based projects which deliver bird and habitat conservation impacts.

Grants of up to $5,000 are available for ‘hands-on’ community projects, which support participation in BirdLife Australia’s core programs (e.g. signage, workshops, native plants, equipment etc).

Eligible applicants include community groups that will be encouraged to become an Affiliated Group of BirdLife Australia and work with program staff.

Australian Geographic Society Sponsorship Program

Applications close 30 November 2020

This program seeks to support scientific research, protecting and fostering a love for the environmental and natural heritage, encouraging the spirit of discovery and spreading the knowledge of Australia to Australians and the world.

Project scholarships: up to $10,000 in four categories: science, environment, adventure, community. The majority of project sponsorships given are for less than this amount. The average project sponsorship is for $1,500. A total funding pool of $30,000 is available.

The Bob Hawke Landcare Award

Applications close 12 October 2020

This award acknowledges an individual’s leadership and commitment to Landcare, natural resource management and sustainable agriculture. A total prize package worth $50,000 is available for the successful recipient.

The award will be presented at the National Landcare Awards gala dinner on 11 March 2021 in Sydney.

Eligible nominees must:

Be an individual.
Not be a group or organisation.
Be an Australian citizen.
Be actively involved in Landcare, natural resource management and sustainable agriculture.
Have demonstrated leadership and a commitment to natural resource management and sustainable agriculture.

NACC Biodiversity Community Grants

This program aims to improve the management and protection of the region’s threatened Malleefowl (Leipoa ocellata) and Black-flanked Rock-wallaby (Petrogale lateralis lateralis) to ensure its ecological values are retained for future generations. It provides resources to assist land managers and community groups to undertake on-ground land management and adaptation activities, and enhance community skills and knowledge.

Grants of up to $5,000 (excluding GST) are available. ‘In-kind’ contributions are not mandatory but will be viewed favourably by the grant assessment panel.

Forestry Recovery Development Fund Program

Applications close 13 October 2020

The Forestry Recovery Development Fund Program will provide $40 million in assistance to the forestry industry to strengthen medium to long-term recovery from the 2019–20 bushfires. It will assist the forestry industry to invest in upgrades to existing manufacturing lines, as well as diversification and innovation to produce value-added wood products.

To be eligible your grant activity must:

be used to develop new wood products, or secure your capacity to deliver existing products, that you intend to sell solely or mainly into interstate and/or international markets
have at least $2 million in eligible expenditure.

National Landcare Program: Smart Farms Small Grants Round 4

The Australian Government’s National Landcare Program aims to protect, conserve and provide for the productive use of Australia’s water, soil, plants and animals. Grants are available from $5000 to $100,000 (GST exclusive).

Norman Wettenhall Foundations – Small Environmental Grants Scheme

This program aims to provide support for groups or individuals undertaking projects that will make a positive difference to the natural living environment, in land, sea or air, rural or urban.

Grants are usually under $10,000. Grants are also available on behalf of donors, and their programs can be over $10,000 (e.g. the landscape restoration and education grants). Applicants with a project of over $10,000 must check with the program administrator prior to applying. Universities and academics can only apply for up to $5,000.

The program has four funding rounds per year – February, May, August and November. Rounds are closed when there is a suitable number and spread of applications which usually happens within a month to six weeks of opening.

The application is a two-stage process:

Nature Foundation – Heritage Agreement Grants Program

Applications close 5 October 2020

This program aims to encourage landowners to conserve and maintain the biodiversity of native vegetation on their properties. It will improve management and protection of the unique native vegetation on rural properties throughout South Australia.

There are two types of grants available:
1. Small grants

For better managing Heritage Agreement areas.
Up to $10,000 are available.
Application opened 4 August and closes 5 October 2020, 5pm.

2. Large grants

Aimed at achieving landscape-scale conservation outcomes across multiple properties.
More than $10,000 are available.
Application opens in October 2020.

Applicants must contribute in kind or an amount approximately equal to the grant.

A total funding pool of $3 million is available over the next two years (from August 2020).

Nature-based Tourism Co-investment Fund

This program is open on an ongoing basis until June 2022 or until funds are exhausted, whichever comes first.

This program seeks to support businesses and organisations to activate sustainable and ecologically sensitive tourism experiences in SA, which will, in turn, support jobs, growth and conservation outcomes. It is a key initiative of the South Australia Government’s recently launched Parks 2025 plan, which aims to help build the capacity of parks and places across the State to conserve natural landscapes and wildlife, activate and build resilience for nature and heritage-based tourism, and fast-track the recovery of vital regional economies.

Grants between $20,000 and $1 million are available. Applicants are expected to contribute at least half of the total financial costs of their project. A total funding pool of $5 million fund is available over two years.

Green Industries SA – Valuing Business Waste Grants

This program is open on an ongoing basis.

This program seeks to support South Australian businesses to identify better ways to manage waste and transition to a circular economy. Grants of up to $15,000 are available.

Projects should focus on identifying ways to recover materials for beneficial or higher value reuse and increase the amount of waste diverted from landfill, prioritising waste avoidance, reduction, reuse, and recycling.

Green Industries SA – Circular Economy Market Development Grants

This program is open on an ongoing basis.

This program seeks to assist South Australian companies, local authorities, organisations and research institutes to further their market development efforts associated with recycled materials and recycled-content products within the current challenging environment and transition to a more circular economy business model.

Grants of up to $100,000 (GST exclusive) are available on a dollar-for-dollar matched funding basis. In-kind (non-financial) contributions cannot be included in the amount nominated as matching funds.

A total funding pool of $300,000 is available in 2020-21.

Green Adelaide Grassroots Grants 2020/21

The Green Adelaide Board is providing $1million in funding for the Grassroots Grants program which will support individuals, volunteers, community groups and other bodies working on local, not-for-profit activities that contribute to improved management of the environment.

Funding is available for a variety of activities within the Green Adelaide region such as weed treatment, pest or disease management, fencing, erosion management, revegetation and community education activities.

The Grassroots Grants are available in three categories:

Up to $10,000
$10,000 to $50,000
$50,000 to $150,000

EVENTS AND TOURISM

Tourism Industry Development Fund

Applications close 31 March 2022 or until all funds have been allocated

The Tourism Industry Development Fund is designed to support and stimulate private sector investment in new and improved regional accommodation, and the development of quality tourism product and experiences. It aims to assist in the COVID recovery of regional tourism by encouraging regional operators to improve and diversify so they can attract more visitors and get a higher return on their offering.

Through the South Australian Tourism Commission, the State Government is committing $20 million to the Tourism Industry Development Fund over two years to support regional tourism in South Australia.

Applicants can seek grants from $20,000 to $500,000 (excluding GST) with a maximum of 30 per cent State Government grant of the total project value.

Festivals Australia

Applications close 16 October 2020

Festivals Australia funds high-quality arts projects that invite community participation and audience engagement. Projects can include but are not limited to a parade, performance, workshop, installation or exhibition. This funding round is for projects commencing from 1 February 2021.

The aim is to give community members living in regional or remote Australia the chance to participate in or attend an arts experience at a festival, or a significant one-off community celebration. Festivals Australia will only fund a single project at a festival, not a range of unrelated activities across a festival program.

Connecting Drought Communities Events Grant

Community groups and local governments in eligible drought-affected areas of South Australia can apply for event funding under the Connecting Drought Communities – Events Grant.

Your organisation can apply for funding for one or more events, up to a maximum of $10,000 for each event. The total funding available is $330,000.

Events must:

be open to the community
offer free or low-cost entry
aim to help build community resilience and wellbeing
be held before 15 June 2021.

Regional Tourism Bushfire Recovery Grants – Small Scale Events (Stream 1)
Stream 1 applications close 5:00pm (AEDT) Friday, 18 December 2020.

Applicants are Local Government Authorities and Regional Tourism Organisations operating in Local Government Areas activated by state or territory governments for Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements (DRFA) assistance for the 2019-2020 fire season. Eligible applicants have been sent an invitation letter and a link to the application form via email.

These grants will support smaller-scale events (including the promotion of these events), concerts, festivals and/or other visitor attractions such as art installations and tourist walks. Applicants may apply for more than one grant in this stream, up to a total value of $30,000 per applicant. Applications will be assessed as they are received.

Events South Australia – Live Music Events Fund

This program is open on an ongoing basis.

This program seeks to support live music events and festivals with the potential to grow into major tourist attractions. There are no set minimum and maximum funding limits, though a total funding pool of $550,000 is available per year.

The Music Development Office, Events South Australia and the South Australian Tourism Commission also offer in-kind support in areas of marketing, public relations, operations and event management expertise. In-kind support is considered on a case-by-case basis as no two events are the same.

Tailored Assistance Employment Grants

Tailored Assistance Employment Grants connect Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples with real and sustainable jobs. There are three streams of funding:

Employment – support for job seekers to address barriers to recruitment and improve retention in the workplace, and support for employers to engage and retain job seekers into ongoing jobs, including post-placement support
School-based traineeships – support for secondary students to gain work experience and prepare for post-school transition into further study or employment
Cadetships – support for university students to receive paid work-placement opportunities during the course of their study.

Community Led Proposals – National Indigenous Australians Authority

Australian Cultural Diplomacy Grants Program (ACDGP)

IRGP – Australia-Japan Foundation (AJF) Grant Program

This program seeks to advance Australia’s engagement with Japan by supporting people-to-people linkages; amplifying and shifting perceptions of Australia in Japan to reflect contemporary Australia; and facilitating the promotion of the inventive, innovative capabilities that Australia brings to Australia-Japan collaborations across broad and ever sophisticated sectors. It also seeks to bring to the fore, awareness of the ongoing vital importance of Australia and Japan on each other’s foreign and trade policies by facilitating informed discussions.

Grants between $10,000 and $40,000 are available. It is anticipated that most grants will be between $15,000 and $30,000 per year, depending on the scope of the grant activity and its complexity. Multi-year funding of up to three years will be considered.

A total funding pool of $800,000 is available in 2020-21, subject to appropriation.

The Active Kids Grants have been established with the aim of providing every child with the active childhood they deserve, by supplying them with the equipment they need to participate in sporting activities. The Local Sporting Champions program provides financial assistance for coaches, officials and competitors aged 12-18 participating in state, national or international championships.

Saluting Their Service Commemorative Grants Program

The Saluting Their Service (STS) Commemorative Grants program is designed to preserve Australia's wartime heritage and to involve people throughout the nation in a wide range of projects and activities that highlight the service and sacrifice of Australia's servicemen and women in wars, conflicts and peace operations, and promote appreciation and understanding of the role that those who served have played in shaping the nation.

Two categories of grants are available under the STS program:

Community Grants (STS-CG) — Grants up to a maximum of $10,000 are available for community-based commemorative projects and activities. This includes, for example, the building of community memorials and the preservation of wartime memorabilia that is significant locally but is not necessarily nationally significant.

Major Grants (STS-MG) — Grants between $10,001 and $150,000 are available for major commemorative projects and activities that are significant from a national, state, territory and/or regional perspective.

Veterans' Health Week (VHW) Funding

This program aims to encourage and assist ex-service organisations (ESOs) and community organisations to deliver events during VHW for the benefit of the veteran community.

In 2020, VHW will be held from 24 October to 1 November but events can also be held one week before and three weeks after these dates. Events can be either DVA funded or registered (where DVA funding is not sought).

Funding of up to $720 (GST included) is available. The organisation is responsible for paying all expenses. Any extra costs over $720 will need to be covered by their own organisation.

Overseas Privately-Constructed Memorial Restoration Program

This program aims to assist Australian veterans, Australian veteran associations and other individuals to restore and preserve existing military unit and battle memorials relating to Australian service, that they have constructed overseas. A total funding pool of $200,000 is available in any financial year.

Eligible projects include restoration of existing memorials outside Australian territory that are directly commemorative of Australia’s military involvement in wars, conflicts and peacekeeping operations and recognise the contribution of Australia’s service men and women.

ANZAC Day Commemoration Fund

This program seeks to support projects within South Australia aimed at educating the community and commemorating the nation’s military heritage.

There is no set minimum and maximum funding limits. A total funding pool of $100,000 is available for 2020-21.

In the 2020/21 funding round this grants program will give priority to projects addressing the following:

Digital: projects which are accessible on-demand and benefit a wider community audience regardless of geography.
Regional: projects which are inclusive of storytelling or research focusing on regional SA communities and experiences.
Families: projects which show commitment and support to the lived experiences of veterans and their families.

Foundation for Young Australians – Youth Action Project Grant Scheme (YAPGS)

This program aims to fund projects that support young people (15-24 years) as they navigate and recover from the impact of the Australian bushfires, the COVID-19 pandemic and the ongoing challenges with employment, mental health or transportation. It is a partnership between the Australian Government and the Foundation for Young Australians (FYA).

There are two categories of funding available:

New projects that recognise and uniquely respond to the hardship young people are facing now and will face in the future.
Existing projects that provide a valuable on-going service to young people, which require additional funding to adapt or continue that work given the impact of the current environment.

Inger Rice Foundation Grants

This program seeks to fund incorporated organisations involved with programs that support the relationships between young children and their families/carers.

The Foundation’s objective is to promote the health, welfare and development of young children. The target groups can include prenatal programs and programs for children from birth to primary school entry. Preference is given to those from disadvantaged communities.

Funding of up to $5,000 is available. Assistance to grantees is limited to once every three years.

The Foundation requires assurance that other funding is available to complete the project or program when partial funding is approved.
