Welcome to the November edition of my Mayo Grants Newsletter.

On November 4 our office will be running an online Grant Writing Workshop between 11am and 1pm. Registration for this event can be completed through the online form here. Participants at this event will be provided with the chance to hear from me and my team about grant writing tips and tricks, different grant rounds, in particular, the latest Stronger Communities Programme round as well as from Steve Shotton who will provide a lesson on how to use Regional Development Australia’s search tool.

This month our office will also be facilitating expressions of interest for round seven of the Stronger Communities Programme. Groups are able to apply for grants of between $2,500 and $20,000 to support projects which ‘improve local community participation and contribute to vibrant viable communities. To be eligible for this funding groups must have an Australian Business Number. EOIs will close on the 10th of December at 5pm. Our office will then convene a panel of independent assessors to shortlist 20 applicants who will then be invited to submit formal applications by the 19th of January 2020.

Restart Investment to Sustain and Expand (RISE) Fund

This program is designed to provide financial assistance to cultural and creative projects, activities, and events with the goal of restoring confidence among investors and consumers in the arts industry. RISE seeks to support companies in the arts and entertainment sector with participation in and access to Australian art and culture through the development and support of cultural expression. This grant opportunity requires applicants to provide a financial contribution relative to the overall scale of their project.

Grants between $25,000 and $2 million available / Applications close 31 May 2022

Australian Council for the Arts – Arts Projects

This program seeks to fund activities that provide benefits to the arts sector and more broadly, the general public. A wide range of activities may be funded using this grant including professional development, creation of new work, festivals, exhibitions and promotion of artistic material among others. This funding is available to both groups and individual artists.

PPCA Performers’ Trust Foundation Grants

This program seeks to promote and support the music industry and music-related performing arts. Applications for this funding must meet one of the following purposes: performances for charities, scholarships to encourage musical and dramatic education, or promotion and exposure of performing arts to the general public.

Max $3,000 for individuals and $5,000 for groups / Program open on an ongoing basis

Regional Performing Arts Touring Program

This program seeks to ensure that performing arts are able to reach regional and remote areas throughout Australia. Funding is provided to support costs associated with touring to ensure all Australians can experience and enjoy live performances.

Budget Direct Sponsorships

This sponsorship program provides support to organisations that seek to provide community services and programs, promote health and wellbeing, support vulnerable Australians, and strengthen their communities.

Harcourts Foundation Grants

This funding seeks to provide groups with financial support to aid projects and initiatives focussed upon assisting members of their community. This program seeks to assist local communities to grow and enrich their local area.

Strengthening Rural Communities Program

This program seeks to provide small remote, rural, and regional areas with financial assistance to support a range of initiatives that will assist their local community. Two streams of funding comprise this program – a smaller vital stream for areas with less than 15,000 people and a bushfire recovery stream.

Caterpillar Sponsorship Program

This program provides sponsorship opportunities seeking to connect with customers and assist communities by improving overall quality of life. The partnerships entered into are selected specifically to ensure they reflect Caterpillar’s values, demonstrate technological solutions, and consider the long-term impacts of the project on an environmental, social, and economic level.

Evolution Mining – Sponsorship and Donation Program

This program seeks to support groups that are seeking to establish initiatives that will benefit their local community both now and into the future.

Awesome Foundation Grants

This program seeks to provide financial assistance on a ‘no-strings-attached basis’ to individuals and groups working in and for their communities. Australia has been divided into a series of ‘chapters’ one of which is Fleurieu.

Norman Wettenhall Foundation – Small Environmental Grants Scheme

This program seeks to support groups and individuals with support in undertaking projects that will have a positive impact on the natural environment in both rural and urban communities.

Max funding $10,000 / Round 4 opens 1 December 2021

NACC Biodiversity Community Grants

This program seeks to support projects which aim to improve management and protection of the region’s Malleefowl and Black flanked Rock-wallaby. Resources are provided to assist applicants in creating projects which would support this process.

Future Drought Fund

This program seeks to provide farmers and regional communities with funding to assist them in becoming better prepared for and resilient to the impact of drought. This funding provides farmers and communities with the tools they will require to plan, manage and sustain themselves economically during droughts of the future.

Purves Environmental Fund

This program seeks to enable and empower groups that are striving for environmental sustainability and the preservation of biodiversity. Key areas of interest to the fund include species loss due to habitat destruction, landscape and water management, and solutions to climate change.

Indigenous Advancement Strategy

This program seeks to provide funding for proposals that address an unmet need in the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities. All proposals must be developed alongside the community to ensure that those impacted by the activity will benefit.

Regional Growth Fund SA

This program seeks to assist new economic activity which will support and strengthen regional communities in SA. This funding aims to give communities the chance to leverage government and private funding streams to support the development of infrastructure which will provide direct economic benefits across the state.

Avant Foundation Grants

This program seeks to provide financial assistance to support research, education, and leadership initiatives which are designed with the objective of making a difference in the way in which medicine is practiced. A series of priority research topics have been outlined for 2022 including genomics, digital communication, and COVID-19 among others.

Australian Research Council – Linkage Projects

This funding seeks to provide financial support for projects which initiate or develop research partnerships. These partnerships aim to apply ‘advanced knowledge’ to current problems as well as obtaining new knowledge as the basis for securing benefits for future research programs.

Cyber Security Skills Partnership Innovation Fund

This program seeks to provide industry and education providers with financial support to deliver projects which meet the requirements of their local community. The aim of this funding is to improve the quality and availability of cyber professionals across Australia.

Australian Cricket Infrastructure Fund

This program seeks to provide financial support for community cricket facility projects. The main goal of this program is to increase participation and promote accessibility and inclusivity in community-based cricket.

SA Boating Facilities Fund

This program seeks to contribute financially towards publicly available recreational facilities which benefit a considerable number of boating enthusiasts. Funding support can be provided at up to 80% of the project’s total cost.

Saluting their Service Commemorative Grants Program

This program seeks to preserve Australia’s wartime history and to involve Australians in a wide range of projects and initiatives which highlight the commitment and dedication of Australian service personnel in wars, conflicts, and peace operations. Funding can be put towards either smaller community grants or major nationwide projects.

Balnaves Foundation Grants

This program seeks to support eligible organisations with funding to create a ‘better Australia’ through education, medical advancement, and the arts. One of the key priority groups for this funding is young people.

Capital Grants Program

This program seeks to assist non-government primary and secondary schools with improvements to their capital infrastructure. The goals of this funding are to improve school-based infrastructure and to pursue the Commonwealth’s priorities and objectives with relation to schooling.

Council grants are often a good place to start when looking for funding options to support localised projects. Although funding is often more limited than state or federal grants, these programs are specific to the local area and provide groups with a fantastic local connection and funding source.
