Federal Member for Mayo Rebekha Sharkie was invited to be part of the selection process of Lobethal Lutheran School’s new leaders for 2017.

The NXT MP met the six candidates for the two captain positions on Monday, December 12.

Charlie Powell and Isabel Newman were announced as the captains at a school presentation on Thursday, December 15.

During Ms Sharkie’s visit the candidates took the MP on a tour of the grounds and facilities, spending time discussing the school’s history and why they wanted to be school leaders next year.

“I was very impressed with the students’ knowledge of their school and how much they valued its heritage while also embracing its future,” Ms Sharkie said.

“It’s so encouraging to see young people engaged with their school community and so full of ideas of how they could contribute.

“The selection panel would have had a difficult choice but I’m sure the successful captains captains will be a credit to their school and I wish them all the best.”
