Centre Alliance delivers $2.26M for Aldinga Sports Complex

Federal Member for Mayo Rebekha Sharkie has secured $2.26 million for a much-needed redevelopment of the Aldinga Sports Complex.

The money has been allocated from the Federal Government’s Community Development Grants Programme as a direct result of the advocacy of the Centre Alliance MP in recent months.

The funding will assist the City of Onkaparinga and the multiple sporting groups that use thecomplex to redesign and upgrade the grounds, including the building of two new soccer pitches and the installation of cricket nets.

“This money will make such a difference to the communities of Aldinga, Port Willunga and Sellicks Beach which are among the fastest-growing parts of Adelaide and, as a result, are experiencing infrastructure deficits,” Rebekha said.

“These areas are new additions to the Mayo community, and it has been an absolute pleasure to represent them since the election.

“I appreciate the fact that the clubs associated with the Aldinga Sports Complex approached me with their plans to modernise the area.

“The current site is in need of major redevelopment and is the home of the Aldinga Football Club, Aldinga Bay Bowling Club, Aldinga Bay Croquet Club, Aldinga Bay Hockey Club, Aldinga Soccer Club, Aldinga Bay Riding Club, the Aldinga Cricket Club and the Aldinga Netball Club.

“An upgrade has the scope of attracting not only more men's teams but also women's and junior teams. The planned Aldinga super school will be adjacent to the sporting complex and would also benefit greatly from properly improved facilities.”

Aldinga Cricket Club Vice President Chris Richardson said his members welcomed the funding anouncement.

"Our facilities are in dire need of an upgrade and this announcement will help us continue to provide a safe and fun environment for kids and adults to play cricket," Chris said.

"We look forward to working with the other sporting clubs in the area to make this complex as successful as it possibly can be.”

Aldinga Soccer Club President Mick Treen also welcomed the announcement.

"The soccer club has for years shared facilities with the footy club so it would be great to have our own soccer pitches," Mick said today.

"This is good news for the community and other sporting clubs in the area. Hopefully we can all work together and make Aldinga Sporting hub a place everyone can enjoy."
